Denzel Washington Stars In The Iceman Cometh Revival Directed By George C. Wolfe And Produced By Scott Rudin This Spring At The Jacobs Theatre.
Eugene O’Neill Revival To Be Produced By Scott Rudin
On March 22, 2018, The Iceman Cometh returns to Broadway, beginning previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre ahead of an opening night on April 26, 2018. The run is scheduled to close on July 1, 2018. This revival is produced by Scott Rudin, whose other fare this season includes an upcoming revival of Carousel and Edward Albee’s play Three Tall Women.
In the fall he had Meteor Shower, and in the summer he had a stake in 1984, as well as A Doll’s House, Part 2, Sweat, and The Glass Menagerie – not to mention the ongoing cash cow revival of Hello, Dolly!, now starring Bernadette Peters.
New Writer Lucas Hnath
With The Iceman Cometh, he is demonstrating a continued reliance on revivals with star casting in order to stay afloat, while occasionally investing in new plays – usually also based on star talent, such as the power team of Amy Schumer and Steve Martin for Meteor Shower.
With A Doll’s House, Part 2, he was investing in a new writer, Lucas Hnath, mostly because of his devotion to the director, Sam Gold, and with Sweat he was supporting the work of a successful mid-career playwright, Lynn Nottage.
Full Cast Announced For Epic Play
For The Iceman Cometh, the star power of Denzel Washington is the greenlight-able element. In the lead part of Hickey, Washington will flex his muscles along with a large ensemble cast.
The role of Cora is to be played by Tammy Blanchard, who earned a Tony Award nomination as a child playing Louise in the 2003 revival of Gypsy, and she also earned a nomination for playing Hedy La Rue in the 2011 production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
They are joined by Tony winners Frank Wood (Side Man) as Cecil Lewis and Bill Irwin (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) as Ed Mosher.

Tony nominee Reg Rogers (Holiday) plays James Cameron, Olivier nominee Colm Meaney (Old Vic's A Moon for the Misbegotten) will be Harry Hope, David Morse (The Seafarer) is Larry Slade, Joe Forbrich (The Front Page) is Lieb, Carolyn Braver (Airline Highway) will portray Pearl, Thomas Michael Hammond (M. Butterfly) is Moran, Neal Huff (Take Me Out) is Willie Oban, Danny Mastrogiorgio (The Front Page) is Chuck Morello, Michael Potts (1984) is Joe Mott, Dakin Matthews (Waitress) is Piet Wetjoen, Clark Middleton (Miracle Mile) is Hugo Kalmar, and in their Broadway debuts, Nina Grollman as Margie, Jack McGee as Pat McGloin, and Austin Butler as Don Parritt.
George C. Wolfe Directs Lengthy Production
The director of The Iceman Cometh is a Rudin regular, George C. Wolfe, who also helmed Shuffle Along, Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, Lucky Guy by Nora Ephron, The Normal Heart, A Free Man of Color, Caroline, or Change, Topdog / Underdog, and many more.
George C. Wolfe was the artistic director of the Public Theater from 1993 to 2004, and has won Tony Awards for directing Angels in America: Millennium Approaches in 1993 and Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk in 1996. This 14-week production will be testament to Wolfe’s ongoing commitment to interpreting new works, helming ambitious productions with top talent.
Iceman Cometh: A Great Night At The Theatre
The creative team for The Iceman Cometh is the Scenic Design Santo Loquasto, the Costume Designer Ann Roth, and the Lighting Designers Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer. From late March to end of June, this show will be a worthwhile night at the theatre.
