Star-Studded Comedic Theatrical Event Adapted From Simon Rich's New Yorker Short Stories That Explore Themes Of Love, Relationships And Modern NYC life.

What's All Out Like?

All In: Comedy About Love was a fast-paced, high-energy theatrical comedy that combined stand-up, sketch-style humor, and theatrical storytelling into a unique Broadway experience. It featured a rotating cast of top-tier comedians and actors performing Simon Rich’s signature absurd, satirical, and heartfelt stories about romance, relationships, and human connection.

Tone & Style

  • Sketch comedy meets Broadway – The show played like a series of short comedic scenes, each adapted from Rich’s New Yorker stories.
  • Surreal & exaggerated humor – Many of Rich’s stories take familiar situations and push them to ridiculous extremes, much like a comedic version of Black Mirror or a stage version of Saturday Night Live.
  • Heartfelt but hilarious – Despite its over-the-top humor, the show had an emotional core, exploring love, heartbreak, and human nature in a way that resonated with audiences.

Production Elements

  • Minimalist set design – The focus was on the performances and storytelling rather than elaborate sets.
  • Live music – The Bengsons performed live on stage, playing songs from The Magnetic Fields’ 69 Love Songs, which helped set the mood for different scenes.
  • Illustrations by Emily Flake – Projections of original artwork by New Yorker cartoonist Emily Flake added a whimsical visual layer to the production.

Overall Vibe

If you enjoy the sharp wit of The New Yorker, the sketch-style humor of SNL, or the storytelling of John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch, All In likely felt like a mix of all three—clever, laugh-out-loud funny, and surprisingly touching.

Is All Out Good for Kids?

The show has some more mature themes (nothing too explicit, but potentially PG-13 in content), that kids might enjoy.

However, if you're looking for something family-friendly, the show is not a good fit and is better suited for older teens rather than younger kids. Plus the ticket prices are a total ripoff, unless the kids parents are very well-off.

All Out on Broadway Background

Simon Rich’s high-grossing Broadway hit All In: Comedy About Love, was such a huge success that its producers are trying to make lightning strike twice with a follow-up show All Out for the 2025-2026 season. This new production, will expand its scope from love stories to broader tales about life, once again written by Simon Rich and originally published in The New Yorker.

Show Refused To Be Part of Broadway Week Promotion

All In concluded its run at the Hudson Theatre on February 15, 2025 after beginning previews December 11, 2024, and officially opening December 22, 2025.

All In was a money-grab, as the show producers refused to be part of Broadway Week discount offer promotion and didn't offer any cheaper tickets to fans. This meant that the show could only be attended by well-heeled fans.

High Ticket Pricing Set New Record

All In was directed by Alex Timbers and the production set a new record for the highest-grossing week for a play at the Hudson, a milestone reached the week ending February 2, 2025

This was thanks in part to a buzzworthy guest appearance by Jimmy Fallon and the massively overpriced tickets going all the way up to $1200 per seat for decent tickets, leaving typical Broadway fans out in the cold.

Nine Week Production

All Out is expected to go down the same route as All In did, with overpriced tickets and a short production window of nine weeks to maximize profit, to create buyer interest - but audiences may now be wise to this pitch which could be why the producers did not announce the show before All In closed.

Many ticket buyers thought that this was their last chance to see the line up together - but it looks like they are now doing it all over again and buyers will not be fleeced so easily.

Rotating List of Big-Name Performers

Jimmy Fallon was just one of many A-list performers who rotated through the production’s limited run. The closing cast was led by Lin-Manuel Miranda and included Tim Meadows, Annaleigh Ashford, and Hank Azaria.

The show opened with John Mulaney in the lead and also featured Fred Armisen, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Richard Kind, Aidy Bryant, Nick Kroll, Andrew Rannells, Chloe Fineman, Jimmy Fallon, and David Cross.
