What's Cabaret Like?
Cabaret takes place in Berlin Germany during 1929-1930. This a time when Berlin is in the midst of a post-World War I economic depression and is transitioning from a center of underground, avant-garde cultural epicenter to the beginnings of Hitler’s totalitarian regime and the subsequent rise of the Nazi Party.
A struggling American writer is looking for inspiration for his next novel and wanders into the Kit Kat Klub on his very first night in the city. What he finds there amazes and intrigues him.
Over the year, the situation in Berlin changes from the exciting and vital to ominous and violent. Unexpected events now determine the protagonists life in ways he could not have foretold.
