What's Mary Poppins Like?
Fans of the book series will be happy to see that this adaptation includes characters and adventures the film left out. Fans of the film may miss its simplicity (and a few of the songs). This production does feature iconic songs from the movie like "A Spoonful of Sugar" and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." But everyone is sure to appreciate the excellent cast and impressive sets. Be aware that there are a few darker moments in the show that might scare smaller children.

Mary Poppins on Broadway Background
The stage adaption of Mary Poppins premiered in London's West End in September 2004. This is the only Disney musical to premiere in the UK. Mary Poppins made its Broadway debut in November 2006. After a six year run at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre, Mary Poppins astonished nearly 4 million people with its own brand of pure Broadway magic. Mary Poppins the musical has a book by Julian Fellowes ("Downtown Abbey", School of Rock) and music and lyrics by the Sherman Brothers (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Jungle Book, The Aristocats). The Sherman Brothers are credited with writing more motion-picture musical scores than any other songwriting team, including the original Mary Poppins film. Mary Poppins was nominated for seven Tony Awards and won the award for Best Scenic Design.
The original Broadway cast starred Ashley Brown (Beauty and the Beast) as Mary Poppins and Gavin Lee (originated the role in the West End production of Mary Poppins) in his Broadway debut as Bert.
