Set in Victorian London, Sweeney Todd tells the penny-dreadful tale of a murderous, revenge-seeking barber and his pie-baking accomplice Mrs. Lovett, who uses her culinary skills to dispose of the bothersome corpses.
Is Sweeney Todd Good for Kids?
Although the show is somewhat macabre and a bit bloody, the show is designed to be not-too-offensive for most people, but children under 16 years of age should avoid this show due to its gratuitous scenes of death and murder.

Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford Starred in Show
For this version of Sweeney Todd on Broadway, both Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford are attached to the revival. Both have subsequently left the show.
Groban starred in the 2016 Broadway production of the musical Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, and plays the lead role of the Sweeney Todd title character. Ashford who starred in the 2017 revival of Sunday in the Park with George plays Mrs. Lovett.

Renowned actors Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster are set to replace Groban and Ashford in the show on Feb 9, 2024. Understudies will play the roles vacated by Groban and Ashford during the 3 week turnover window.

During the time of actor replacement, the lead roles were played by:
- Nicholas Christopher will play Sweeney Todd for all Wednesday-Saturday performances. Christopher will also play Pirelli for Sunday performances. Paul-Jordan Jansen will play Sweeney Todd for all Sunday performances.
- Jeanna de Waal will play Mrs. Lovett for all evening performances and DeLaney Westfall will play the role for Wednesday and Saturday matinees.
- Raymond J. Lee will play Pirelli for all evening performances. Daniel Torres will play the role for Wednesday and Saturday matinees.
Its a total complicated mess and the show should have just gone on pause during the lead role changeover.
Sutton Foster and Aaron Tveit Take Over Lead Roles
Sutton Foster and Aaron Tveit took over the lead roles and their run began performances on February 9, 2024 for a 12-week engagement (succeeding Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford. The show is set to close May 5, 2024
